Spring 2011 test results are in as published in the Star Ledger:

Valley View’s 8^th grade Math Advanced Proficient number was the highest in Somerset County, and in Language Arts, our 8^th grade Advanced Proficient number was second highest in Somerset County.

• In Math, 73.2% of our eighth graders scored Advanced Proficient.
• In Language Arts, 53.7% of our eighth graders scored Advanced Proficient.

Rock Avenue Construction

We have just been notified that Rock Avenue will be closed for all buses starting Monday, December 5, 2011.  If your child attends Bayberry the alternate stop during the construction project will be at the corner of Rock Avenue and Washington Drive.  Valley View students alternate stop is at the corner of Rock Avenue and Washington Drive or Rock Avenue and Mountain Boulevard. 

Please have your child at the alternate stops for pick up and drop off.  The estimated time for this project is two weeks, but could extend longer depending on weather.  Please check the website for updates.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are preparing to assign teachers to many after-school activity positions, but we need to know how many students will be paying the required fee. The Administration has explained that our 2011-2012 School District Budget does not contain sufficient funds to provide all after-school activities. We need supplementary funding. An Activity Fee of $50 is being charged for student participation in Valley View School after-school activities. In Bayberry, the Activity Fee is $25. This is a one-time fee per child, for the entire year.

Please send a check to your child’s school, made payable to the Watchung Board of Education, for each child in your family who will be participating in after-school activities. Again, this is a one-time fee and it covers all activities for your child, all year. Remember: the fee is $50 at Valley View and $25 at Bayberry.

PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the Watchung Board of Education that a Special Meeting of the Board of Education will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Office Conference Room at Valley View School, 50 Valley View Road. The meeting will be an Executive Session and the purpose will be Personnel Matters. No action will be taken.

Dear Watchung Residents,

Dr. Mary Louise Malyska has notified the Board of Education that she will be retiring effective July 1, 2012.  We thank her for her years of service in Watchung and wish her well.  The State of New Jersey mandates that the District have a Superintendent of Schools.  While Dr. Malyska will continue to serve as Superintendent through June 30^th, the Board is beginning the lengthy search process this summer.  As part of the process, we will be seeking public input.  Please check the website periodically at www.watchungschools.com for more information and updates.

The Watchung Board of Education requests the voluntary assistance of professional landscapers to plan and complete beautification of the grounds at both schools.  The Board Facilities Committee will meet with all volunteers and will be extremely grateful for your professional assistance.  There will be ongoing posting of business signage to inform the public of the voluntary work that is done by landscape companies to benefit the schools.
