Valley View School
Valley View School houses approximately 288 students in grades 5 thorough 8. There is currently a staff of 40. A rigorous academic program is offered that includes differentiated instruction in math, grades 5-8. If qualified, students have the opportunity to take the high school Algebra I course in eighth grade. The sixth grade is semi-departmentalized, with students rotating to different teachers for social studies, language arts, science, and math. Seventh and Eighth grade are fully departmentalized.
Valley View is unique in its ability to transition "upper elementary" students to a middle school climate. Students are progressively less self-contained as they move through the grades. Valley View is also unique in its ability to offer extended cycle courses to all grade levels. The cycles include industrial arts, computers, art and music or guidance. They are also offered a world language in grades 5 - 8.
Technology is integrated across all the disciplines. The school has a networked, multimedia eMac computer lab as well as five desktop networked, Internet connected computers in every classroom. Teachers and administration communicate via an internal e-mail system as well as an Internet based mail system to communicate with the community. Students are taught to use the resources of the Internet to produce multimedia presentations that demonstrate what they have learned. The Internet is used extensively throughout all subject matter. In industrial arts, students draw and interpret technical drawings and produce final projects in woodworking and graphic arts.
A variety of curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities are offered. Students participate in intramural and interscholastic athletics, a variety of clubs, and Student Council. Musical opportunities abound with band, jazz band, chorus, special chorus, and plays.
Valley View School is proud of its students who show pride and respect in themselves and their accomplishments.
