READING

Reading Calendars due every Fri.  

You are required to read for at least 20-30 minutes a day!  Log your hours, have an adult sign your calendar, and return on Fridays.

We will begin the novel, Maniac Magee this week with a Webquest on Wednesday and Friday.


Reading Response Journals will be assigned in will be written in response to Maniac Magee.

These are short responses to me about your story (about 1 page in length) Below are some sample prompts.  You have the list, in its entirety, in your response journal. 


Reading Response Directions: Choose a number from below and write it at the top of your .

__1. Connect something from the book to something to your personal life.

__2. Summarize what you have read, and give your reaction to the story.

__3. Tell me about the setting, characters, or ending.

__4. What themes does the author get you to think about ?

__5. Who is the narrator of your story? How would the story change if another character told it?

__6. Who is the main character of your story? What are some of the character’s traits?

___7. Write a friendly letter to a character in the story.

____8. Write a letter to the author of your novel. What did you dislike or like about the novel?

Rules for a Productive Learning En vironment:
 
1. Follow directions the first time they are given.
2. Raise your hand and wait to be recognized.
3. Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.
4. Treat others as you wish to be treated.
5. If you don't know...ask.
 
The Ladder of Consequences:
 
1. Verbal Warning

3. 10-minute detention at 3:00 p.m.
4. 30-minute detention at lunch/parent call

In addition to our classroom rules, we'll have a classroom incentive plan to encourage students to manage and monitor their academic and social behavior. We're calling it F.O.C.U.S. for Success. Students can earn 5 points each period which can be redeemed at the end of the week for extra points in the Gradebook.
Each letter of the word focus stands for a different behavior we wish to encourage:
