Gifted and Talented

The Watchung Borough School District is committed to supporting the academic and creative potential of our students through a comprehensive Gifted and Talented Program, serving students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. All services are provided during regular school hours.

Our program includes differentiated instruction within the general education classroom, cluster grouping, and a specialized pull-out program known as SOAR. Beginning in 6th grade, eligible students may also be recommended for accelerated math classes to further challenge and engage their learning.

Student identification is based on multiple measures, including teacher and parent input, intelligence and achievement assessments, and evaluations of creativity, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Both local and national norms are considered in the process. Universal screenings take place in grades 2 and 5, and new students are considered for identification throughout the school year.

This program is aligned with District Policy 2464: Gifted and Talented Students, which outlines our commitment to identifying and meeting the needs of gifted learners.

We strive to provide enriching opportunities that inspire, challenge, and support each student’s growth.
