About Us

Watchung Borough School District has two schools: Bayberry Elementary (PreK-4) and Valley View Middle (5-8). Our culture of inquiry and collaboration supports our learning community and encourages students to explore, ask questions, and find joy in discovery. Our community believes in a growth mindset, and our talented teachers and dedicated staff encourage students to embrace challenges, take risks, and solve problems in real-world contexts. A sense of belonging permeates the schools and serves as a foundation for academic and social-emotional growth. Our 1:1 technology and STEM programs complement authentic, experiential learning in academic and co-curricular activities. Students learn to lead and collaborate through student council, academic competitions, service clubs, and performing arts programs. The student enrollment is 669. Watchung is a sending district of Watchung Hills Regional High School.

Community

Our district is located in Somerset County, in a small borough just 30 miles from New York City. The schools enjoy strong support from parents and local organizations, such as the Watchung PTO, Watchung Educational Foundation (WEF), Watchung SEPAG, and Watchung IDEA.

Why is the Board of Education having a referendum?

The Board is committed to providing a first-rate educational experience for all students. In the development of its long-range facilities plan (LRFP), the board identified facility infrastructure and renovation projects that will allow the district to ensure the continued safe operation and maintenance of its school buildings and create new learning opportunities by transforming outdated rooms into 21st-century learning spaces.
