Welcome and thank you for your interest in Watchung Borough School District. We are proud of our schools and committed to preparing our students to be resilient, collaborative learners in a complex, ever-changing world. Our culture of inquiry and collaboration is our foundation, and our dedicated teachers and staff inspire students to be curious, creative problem solvers who find joy in learning.

We teach our students to explore and inquire, discover and pursue passions, and think critically and creatively. We promote innovative, authentic instruction and honor our students as individuals who learn in different ways and at different rates. Our students embrace divergent perspectives and deepen their understanding of others in a culturally vibrant, inclusive community. We believe in the power of a growth mindset and encourage our students to take risks and learn from mistakes.

This is an exciting time to be a student and educator in our schools. We value our learning community and know that our students thrive when they are engaged, experience real world challenges, and feel a sense of belonging.

Last Friday, I was at the borough hall for a meeting, and I could not help but notice the framed photographs of the councils over the years. But the image that stayed with me this past week was the proud look on Mayor Mobus’s face in the 2012 council portrait.

Why is the Board of Education having a referendum?

The Board is committed to providing a first-rate educational experience for all students. In the development of its long-range facilities plan (LRFP), the board identified facility infrastructure and renovation projects that will allow the district to ensure the continued safe operation and maintenance of its school buildings and create new learning opportunities by transforming outdated rooms into 21st-century learning spaces.
