Covid-19 Testing for Students 12-15-21

 Office of the Superintendent

December 15, 2021

Dear Parents,

I am writing to follow up on the opportunity for students to participate in the voluntary Covid screening testing program. We are opening it up to all students, regardless of vaccination status. If you choose to participate, please complete the required consent form, no later than Monday, December 20. See below for the information on the process previously provided.

The district is working with the New Jersey Department of Health’s contracted partner, Mirimus, Inc., to offer this voluntary testing option. To help families decide whether to participate, we are providing information on the testing process. Students who choose to participate will receive a supply of test kits to use for collecting saliva-based samples. Families will be responsible for returning the kits with collected samples to the appropriate school health office on Tuesday morning each week. The health office will arrange for Mirimus to pick up the kits for testing. Please see this short video and written instructions in English and Spanish on how to collect the samples. Mirimus will provide test results to the parents directly. Results sent to the schools will remain confidential.

To enroll in this testing program, you must first fill out the consent and HIPPA release form. We ask that you complete one form for each participating child by December 20, so that we can try to distribute testing kits before the December break and begin collecting the samples in early January.

Please remember that this is an optional screening program for students. Vaccines are also widely available for children ages 5 and older.

If you would like more information about getting a vaccine or if you have any questions about the screening program, please contact your child’s school health office. In the meantime, please continue to screen your children for symptoms each morning and keep them home if they are sick.

Thank you.

Very truly yours,

George P. Alexis
Superintendent
