I am writing to provide an update on our plans for communication and distance learning over the next three weeks. During the closure, I will provide regular district updates through email, text, and phone messages. For distance learning, however, the primary point of contact for students and families will be the students’ teachers. If an issue arises that cannot be resolved by the teacher, please contact your child's principal by email.
We have created a distance learning model that is designed to continue the academic progress of all students. I want you to know how grateful I am for the remarkable skill, flexibility, and collaboration of the teachers in this process. Below are important details and suggestions for supporting your child during the distance learning process.
Beginning, Monday, March 16, and continuing through April 3, students at both Bayberry Elementary School and Valley View Middle School will follow their single-session day schedules daily. The schedules are posted on the school websites.
Teachers provided students with expectations and materials today. If your child was absent, please contact your child’s teacher to make arrangements to access the materials.
Attendance will be taken daily through a Google form that is linked to the school websites. Parents should ensure that this is done by or for their child no later than 9:30 am at Bayberry and no later than 8:30 am at Valley View.
Bayberry students will get their learning plans through the teacher webpages (including Art, Music, PE, STEM, and Spanish) on the school website. These learning activities will be a combination of online and paper-based assignments.
Valley View students will receive their instruction and learning activities from their teachers through Google Classroom.
The following are ways you can assist your child:
Help your child follow the daily schedule and go online to access assignments.
Check-in with your child. Ask to see the work being completed and check for completion. Encourage Valley View students to contact their teachers if they encounter challenges with the assignments or have questions. Bayberry School parents should do the same for their child.
If your child has problems with the technology, please contact the teacher through email. Teacher contact information will be on each teacher’s class page and the school website.
Thank you for your ongoing support. The safety and well-being of our students and staff members remain the top priority of the board and administration. We will keep you informed.
Very truly yours,
George P. Alexis
