July 23, 2020
Dear Parents and School Community Members,
I am writing to update you on the progress of our planning and ask for your assistance. I am sharing a survey for parents. It should not take more than a few minutes to complete. We need every family to respond, and we need each family to complete a separate survey for each child by Monday, July 27. Your responses to this survey are critical to helping us determine scheduling and staffing of classes and services.
Based on feedback and discussion on a wide range of issues at Tuesday’s Restart Committee meeting, we have made adjustments to the hybrid model. In order to provide the best opportunity for success of the educational program and to eliminate health and safety concerns related to lunchtime, we will take a more gradual approach toward our ultimate goal of full-time in-person instruction.
During Phase One, in-person instruction will follow an early dismissal schedule with the afternoons reserved for remote extra help and professional collaboration. Phase Two will entail a shift to full days in the hybrid model, and Phase Three will be a full return to a traditional in-person instructional day. These transitions will occur when conditions allow. Of course, we must also be prepared for a return to a fully virtual program.
We understand that an early dismissal schedule may create additional challenges for families, but we believe this approach strikes the best available balance under the current unfortunate circumstances.
Last, we want to let you know that the Bayberry playground will reopen on Friday. Please understand that it is not supervised, monitored, or regularly disinfected over the summer, so visitors will use it at their own risk. Thank you for your understanding.
We will continue to keep you updated about our planning for the fall. Thank you for responding to our survey by Monday. Your responses are an important part of our planning process.
Very truly yours,
George P. Alexis
