Dear Watchung Families,
We regret to inform you that, as of today’s date, we have been unable to procure transportation for next school year for students in Watchung Borough. Despite making multiple bid attempts, engaging in discussions with various Educational Service Commissions, Jointures, and neighboring districts, negotiating with vendors for individual routes, and directly reaching out to the NJ Department of Education for assistance, we are still unable to obtain services. We are consistently being told it is due to the lack of qualified bus drivers. We are continuing to work to obtain services for the next school year and in fact are part of a bid package being opened on August 24th by the Somerset County Educational Services Commission and will continue to communicate with Transportation companies attempting to obtain services on any or all of the open bus routes. We will provide another update regarding the status of transportation on August 26th. Should transportation not be procured by that time, the update will include options for families including the possibility of entering a contract with the district to receive compensation for transporting your child to and from school. We appreciate your patience and understanding and will continue to actively pursue options for transporting our Watchung students to and from school.
